Must-Visit Places in Sapporo

Planning a trip to Hokkaido?

Then Sapporo should definitely be on your list!

#Sapporo is a city of contrasts, where modern architecture, Japanese history, local food and green spaces come together!

Here are some places worth adding to your itinerary!

Sapporo TV Tower

One of Sapporo’s most recognisable landmarks!

Built in 1957, the tower is 144 metres tall and it offers panoramic views over the city, with Odori Park stretching out beneath it.

Odori Park

Odori Park stretches approximately 1.5 km through the centre of Sapporo, offering a green escape surrounded by the city's urban landscape!
It is also the venue for seasonal events, including the famous Sapporo Snow Festival in winter.

City Centre

The city centre is a fascinating contrast of modern architecture and Japanese history, offering a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the city’s architectural landscape and discover the different influences that have shaped its development.

Sapporo Clock Tower

Built in 1878 in American-inspired wooden architectural style, the Clock Tower originally served as a drill hall for Sapporo Agricultural College, the institution that eventually became Hokkaido University.
Its clock was installed in 1881 and continues to keep time today.

Former Hokkaido Government Office

( Red Brick Building )

Completed in 1888, the Red Brick Office dates back to Japan’s Meiji era, a period of great transformation when the country was opening up to Western ideas and architecture.

It now serves as a major cultural attraction, with exhibitions exploring Hokkaido’s history and development.

Where the City meets Nature

Take your camera and capture the beauty of this unique blend of urban architecture and nature!

Susukino

Susukino is one of Japan’s major entertainment districts, famous for its neon lights, restaurants, bars, karaoke venues and local food!

Sapporo Beer Museum

#sapporobeer is one of Japan’s most famous beer brands!

Its story began in 1876, when Seibei Nakagawa left Japan at 17 to travel to Germany to study brewing, bringing European lager-making techniques to Japan and helping establish the Kaitakushi Brewery in Sapporo.

The inscription on the stack of barrels translates as: “From barley and hops, beer is born.”

The Sapporo Beer Museum is the only beer museum in Japan, therefore a must-visit!

Jingisukan at Tanukikoji Shipping Street

Try Jingisukan in Sapporo!

A Hokkaido speciality, Jingisukan (also Genghis Khan ) is grilled lamb or mutton cooked on a distinctive domed metal grill, often alongside vegetables. Very tasty!

Makomanai Park

Need a break from the city? Head to Makomanai Park!

This spacious green area is a lovely place to slow down and enjoy a break from Sapporo’s busy streets. It’s a beautiful stop when the autumn leaves turn shades of red, orange and gold! 🍁

Naomi Ferrari

Whenever I can, I choose to travel by bicycle because it lets me truly grasp the essence of every place I visit. With each pedal stroke, I earn every moment, every view, every encounter. I travel this way because I love the feeling of the journey itself, not just the destination.
